It was during the 1999-2000 season that the La Vieille Tapisserie
(the Old Wallpaper) theatre company was founded. Gazing at the walls
of the Montcalm Theatre – covered in tattered orange wallpaper prior to
the renovations -, the theatre company members decided to name
themselves La Vieille Tapisserie.
Among the plays performed by the company, some of the most notable include
- Le Rêve de Cidouly (Cidouly’s Dream), performed by youth from the region
- Écho de campagne (Echoes of the Countryside)
- Le secret de Philomène (Philomène’s Secret), winner of Best Technical Conception at the Acadian Community Theatre Festival
- Cauchemar au paradis (A Nightmare in Heaven), nominated for Best Performance by a Supporting Actor at the Acadian Community Theatre Festival
- La Mission de Cupidon (Cupid’s Mission), performed by youth from the region
- Miss Camping, awarded Best Performance by a Supporting Actor, Best Stage Design, Best Production and the Backstage Prize (for best team spirit). Also nominated for Best Technical Conception, Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role and Best Production at the Acadian Community Theatre Festival
- Chasse à bru
- Quel Micmac!
- Le train sifflera...
- Le bourgeois gentleman
The theatre company consists of 22 volunteers, 13 of whom are
actors, with the other members working on the technical team, the
production team, the set, costumes and make-up. The High Plateaus
Cultural Society was chosen to host the Acadian Community Theatre
Festival in Spring 2006. As well, Saint Quentin will host the annual
amateur theatre festival, Théâtre en Prim’Heur.
