Industrial Park and Potential
In the early 1980s, an industrial sector was developed on the town’s
outer limits, leading to the creation of rue Industrielle (Industrial
Road) with an industrial zone approved under the zonage by-law. A
textile industry was established and remained in operation for several
years before being transformed into a maple syrup industry.
Restigouche Products has occupied the building at 9 Industrial Road
since 1995. Some plots of land were sold to owners of other
industries, but no major development has taken place. The Town Council
ceded some land the Saint Quentin Golf Club, which took advantage of
the opportunity to expand its greens.
Other individuals were able to purchase plots and annex them to
their residential properties. Today, the calling of the so-called
industrial sector has changed considerably as all the plots were sold
off. Moreover, the Town Council has determined that the industrial
sector set aside in the 1980s no longer corresponds to the community’s
needs; it has recommended that a larger sector is required. To this
end, a request has already been submitted to a family business with the
view to purchasing an estate of which a part could become the Town’s
industrial park. To be continued…
